| Old Cerebral Infarct (low power)
| Lower power view of old cerebral cystic infarct with edges
designated by arrows.
This is a characteristic picture of an old infarct where
the ischemic tissue becomes liquified and is taken up
by macrophages leaving a cyst behind with only a few
remnants of tissue remaining in the cyst and gliosis
about the edge.
Brain tissue heals with an astroglial scar not a connective
scar caused by proliferation of fibroblasts and collagen.
Astrocytes are the scar forming cell in the CNS.
