Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Closer view of previous specimen. The aneurysm wall is made up of, from outside in, adventitia, an extremely thin media subject to rupture, an atheromatous layer, and layers of old unorganized thrombus formed with progressive distension.
Friable atheromas lining lumen subject to embolization to viscera and extremities, a complication seen with increasing frequency with increasing life spans, and with concomitant increasing severity of atherosclerosis with age.
