Infarct of Intestine with peritonitis
Infarct of Intestine with peritonitis

Transmural necrosis of the small intestinal wall is seen
The presence of ghost villi(black arrow) identifies the tissue as small intestine
The serosa(green arrow) is covered with a dense infiltrate of polys indicating acute peritonitis
On the basis of this slide you can not distinguish between acute peritonitis secondary to actual perforation or peritonitis secondary to migration of bacteria through devitalized intestine
