Etiology
Dependent on primary.
|
Pathogenesis
Neoplastic cells may reach the small bowel via serosal spread or via hematogenous or lymphatic spread.,
|
Epidemiology
Common with ovarian neoplasms which often simply involve the serosal surface
Maligant melanoma, lung and breast neoplasms, and choriocarcinoma are most common
|
General Gross Description
Often multinodular, may involve full thickness of wall of small bowel, may ulcerate.
|
General Microscopic Description
Dependent on histology of primary neoplasm.
|
Clinical Correlation
Patients often present with obstruction or perforation.
Treatment is palliative
|
