| Edges of the ulcer are smooth and slope downwards into the
ulcer bed as contrasted with ulcerated tumors that have
raised firm margins.
The mucosa immediately adjacent to the ulcer has a normal
appearance
Ulcer bed has a granular appearance representing necrosis
with blood present indicating hemorrhage
