The villi are separated by maternal blood containing numerous mononuclear elements.
The arrowheads point to two mononuclear cells.
The nucleated elements are a combination of macrophages and lymphocytes.

No gross findings
General Microscopic Description

Accumulation of mononuclear cells (maternal CD3+ cells) in intervillous space
May accompany actual villitis
Clinical Correlation

May recur
May be associated with decidual vascular thrombosis and euploid early spontaneous losses.
