• This is a closeup of an intraluminal chorionic villus.
• The villus shows a layer of syncytiotrophoblast overlying cytotrophoblast, that is characteristic of first trimester villi.
• The fetal circulation has started to degenerate.
• This villus looks identical to one in the uterus.
