• This is a portion of a large villus.
• The blue arrows identify the trophoblast covering the villus which is composed of both cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast.
• The black arrows show trophoblast inclusions which are cells identical to the surface cells and are in fact in continuity with them.
