| The arrow points to the junction between squamous and glandular epithelium.
The endocervical epithlium is composed of a basal layer of nuclei underlying a row of columnar cells with basal nuclei.
The squamous epithelium is stratified and has grown up under an existing endocervical epithelium replacing it by metaplasia.
