| Malignant Lymphoma - high grade small non-cleaved cell type (Burkitts)
| The characteristic feature of this
lymphoma is clearly seen in this low power view.
One can see that there appear to be two cell types in
this field, a small cell which is deeply staining and
densely packed.
Interspersed among these cells are large cells which
appear to occupy an empty space.
This gives rise to the characteristic "starry sky"
appearance.
The small cells are the proliferating malignant cells;
the larger cells that appear to be within lacunae are
benign tissue macrophages that are reacting to the
lymphoma.
