The alveolar septae are markedly thickened by loose connective tissue and edema.
The blue arrows point to brightly eosinophilic, acellular hyaline membranes.
The alveolae contain scattered macrophages.
The alveolar septae also contain increased numbers of lymphocytes and macrophages.
