Epidemiology
An uncommon lesion usually on the trunk of middle-aged
individuals.
|
General Gross Description
Also known as dermatofibrosarcoma protubrans.
It may present as a series of bumps or nodules on top
of a plaque-like lesion.
Superficial ulceration of some of these nodules may be
a presenting feature.
|
General Microscopic Description
Histologically, the lesion represents a low-grade
fibrosarcoma of soft tissue origin.
The proliferating fibroblast of this lesion have a
tendency to be arranged in a radially distributed
manner, often referred to as "storiform" pattern.
The lesion may have mitotic figures, but the frequency
is often low to undetectable.
|
Clinical Correlation
Clinically, the lesion is a slow growing malignancy
requiring wide local excision for cure.
